CALM Advisory Board Meeting March 21, 2017
[editors emendation, corrections and comments in brackets, so as not to interfere with the inimitable style of our substitute scribe, Pamela]
The Minutes to End all Minutes [just kidding, Board meeting minutes will continue]
If everyone knew CALM Board meetings were this exciting, there would be chaos as swimmers stampeded for the chance to serve on the Board. Uh oh…
Scene: The comfy couches at Sports Basement.
Tiffany? Conny? Pamela? Steve? Ben? Here.
Jann? Kai? JANN, KAI! Oh, here — sorry, didn’t hear you. We were shopping. [i.e. Jann and Kai made purchases pre-meeting]
Scott? Sandra? Jeremy? Kay? [crickets]
Act I: Swim Meet Re-cap
It was a huge meet. Huge. We give the best meets. Everyone loves our meets. All the best people are there.
• 357 swimmers registered in advance + about 25 deck entries.
• Ingrid made a boatload of cookies, which people RAVED about.
• Strong CALM participation, both in and out of the water. GG everyone.
• T-shirts were not as hideous as in some previous years. We may actually wear them again. [also, t-shirts were available in women’s as well as men’s cuts—which was well received]
• We ran about three heats of each relay, three times what we had intended and promised. There was much rejoicing.
The meet was so much fun and so well run that we are considering hosting a second meet, long course meters, sometime late in summer. Determining interest levels in such a meet. Long course meters lovers, stay tuned. More will be revealed.
Act II: Reports
Social, from Jann
In lieu of the party we typically had right after the swim meet (when some folks are tired, cranky, and just want to go home), Jann has scheduled a team potluck lunch/social at Sports Basement (they have ample free parking and a big open room with ping pong and the above mentioned comfy couches).
Saturday, April 22, 1-3pm, potluck (there will also be some pizzas + drinks, both alcoholic and non)
Membership, not from Scott, who was regrettably absent
General Board agreement that Scott is killing it as membership chair. We see the compelling “Be A Bear” posters everywhere.
Current rosters show membership @ 139 + at least 38 names missing of regular swimmers. Why those swimmers aren’t showing up on the rosters is sorta the Bermuda Triangle of CALM [read: we have tried repeatedly to get an accurate roster, without success thus far]. We’re just gonna have to let the mystery be for now [but we will keep trying].
Act III: Random Stuff
Bi-monthly long course workouts @ Spieker [i.e. semi-monthly; bi-monthly would be every 2 months-but hey, everybody gets this wrong]
Going well. Numbers have jumped around, from a low of 38 to a high of 54. People love it, and lots of [non-CALM] local swimmers are showing up. We are keeping track of names, but don’t always get contact info for everyone.
T/Th 1h15 workouts & evening 1h30 workouts
Attendance numbers are way up. T/Th 6am has gone from averaging about 6 swimmers to 13. 7am has gone from an average of 18 to 32.
Open water swims
Open water prep starts May 1. We are trying to pull together Trans-Tahoe teams. So far we have 1 boat.
Act IV: Next Board meeting
@ Sports Basement, Wednesday April 19, 6:30-7:30
Pamela, subbing for the highly competent Kay
