…on July 20, in a super fast time of just over 11 hours! Nothing short of awe-inspiring. Read her own account of the crossing in the post above.
…coming up July 22, the intrepid trio of Sara Everitt, Scott Adams and Jim Lunt will represent CALM in the Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race (that’s between Asia and Europe, in Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait–a long way to travel for a relatively (to the Channel) short 4 mile swim). Here’s a picture of them before the swim: they still look pretty happy about it!
…back home, Linda Williams and Allison Athens appear to be tearing up the open water circuit this summer, with Linda collecting two 2nd’s in her age division at the Lake Berryessa 1-mile and Lake Del Valle 1.2-km swims respectively; she went on to a divisional 3rd in the Berryessa 2-mile and another in the Del Valle 2.5 km (must have been tired after the shorter races). At Berryessa, Allison took a 2nd in her division of the 1-mile; at Del Valle, she managed a 3rd in the 1.2-km, and finished just out of the money (just kidding–there’s no money involved except the entry fee) in 4th in the 2.5-km.
…and Carroll Riddell won 1st place in her division of the Berryessa 2-mile!
…farewell to CALM swimmer and Social Chair Jann Ronis, who has departed for the east coast, and will soon be terrorizing the pools of Boston, Mass. We’ll miss him, but there’s the prospect that he might succeed in luring his new organization back to Berkeley–stay tuned.
…unfortunately, Jann ran out of time to organize his own going-away party, but word is out that Leo Lozano will step into Jann’s shoes as Social Chair. As many may recall, Leo has experience, having served in this position previously, and he’s hit the ground running: already we can tell you to circle this September 21 for a CALM social event! Look for details to follow.
