Yes, the summer has been long…it has been hot (at least in some (most) places, if not at GB or Spieker pools necessarily, but then we live in paradise, where it is never too hot…and I digress). Your editor was going to take the whole summer off–what with the interlude in Board meetings, the general drop in workout attendance and gaps in coaching coverage–to devote more time to perusing the NY Times. That, however, has has been an increasingly distressing pastime of late, and the prodigious summer exploits of some of your CALM teammates (which many of you may already be aware of) deserve memorializing in the Waterlog. I am speaking, of course, of the just-now completed English Channel swim of Lauren Au, and the upcoming transit of the Bosphorus Strait to be undertaken by Sara Everitt, Scott Adams and Jim Lunt. These are truly exceptional aquatic accomplishments that deserve out admiration and applause. Plus, there are a couple of updates from our new Head Coach, Gaku Ito, who is regrettably otherwise occupied much of this summer, so many of us have seen little or nothing of him. Fear not, rumor has it that, come fall, we will bask in his full attention–in the meantime, he is staying in touch electronically.
